Bambin Gesù all'Esquilino is a church dedicated to the Holy Child.
[edit] History
The church is part of the Generalate of the Oblates of the Child Jesus, an Augustinian congregation founded in 1670 by Anna Moroni. The convent and Generalate was built in the 17th century by Allessandro Specchi. The church was built under Pope Clement XII; construction was started in 1731 by Carlo Buratti and completed in 1736 by Ferdinando Fuga.
[edit] Interior
The church is built as a Greek cross. The great dome is the work of Ferdinando Fuga.
By the high altar is a fresco from the 19th century depicting the Holy Child with angels.
By the altar to the left is a painting from 1736 by Domenico Maria Muratori depicting St Augustine's triumph over heresy.
The altar to the left is dedicated to St Andrew Corsini, and has a depiction of The Virgin Appearing to St Andrew Corsini by Giacomo Zoboli.
To the left of the entrance is the Chapel of the Passion, built 1856 by Virginio Vespignani. It was decorated by Francesco Grandi with angels and symbols of the Passion. The statues of the Evangelists in the niches are by Stefano Galletti.
