Baptistery

From Churches of Rome Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

A baptistery is a chapel used for baptisms.

Traditionally, baptisteries are placed near the entrance to the church, or even in a separate structure outside the church, as baptism marks a person's entry into the Church.

The most notable example in Rome is found in an octagonal building outside San Giovanni in Laterano.
