Santa Maria Stella Matutina is a modern parish church at Via Lucilio 2 in the Trionfale quarter west of Monte Mario. The name means "Morning Star", comparing the Blessed Virgin Mary with the planet Venus heralding the dawn of Christ the sun.
It was designed by Tullio Rossi and completed in 1951, on the plan of a Greek cross in pinkish brick with an attached campanile in traditional Romanesque style. The gabled façade is very plain, and the body of this large church is rather hulking under one roof. Was it completed according to the original design?
This is one of the Roman churches with a poor internet profile.
