Santa Maria della Provvidenza ai Due Colli is a deconsecrated later 20th century public chapel at Via Badesi 31, which is in a suburban locality called Due Colli. This is part of the Borghesiana suburban district.

The dedication is to the Blessed Virgin Mary, under her title of "Our Lady of Providence".

History[]

The neighbourhood arose from illegally sub-divided farmland which became an unplanned suburb in the Sixties. There was a lot of this sort of thing in the locality at the time. In response, the parish of Santa Maria della Fiducia opened several chapels-of-ease of which this was one.

The edifice was an inadequate little shack, and so was replaced by a more substantial prefab on a different site in about 2017. This is Santa Maria Consolata ai Due Colli. The original building was still there in 2018.

Appearance[]

The former chapel is a shack in light grey concrete blocks with a flat roof, which is not easy to find. It is opposite the junction with Via Banari. Look for a green curlicued metal gate. There used to be a wooden cross standing in the little yard behind, but presumably this has been removed

The edifice looks as if it was built by amateurs, and must be a candidate for the worst free-standing Catholic place of worship to exist in Rome.
