[edit] History
The church was built in the 7th century on the site of the family home of Pope Honorius I.
It was reconstructed in 1634 by Pope Urban VIII, who commissioned the architect Giacomo Mola. The architect worked on the nearby Ospedale di San Giovanni in Laterano at the same time. Many elements from a 15th century reconstruction were preserved by Mola.
It was restored under Pope Benedict XIII (1724–1730).
The church is served by diocesan clergy, but is normally not open. The exceptions are the feast of the two Apostles, and funeral Masses celebrated by Camillian Fathers.
[edit] Exterior
The façade was constructed c. 1730, and was restored in 1992. The door is from the 15th century. It is surmounted by a window and an image of Our Saviour.
[edit] Interior
The church has a single nave. The floor, in Cosmatesque style, was laid in 1462.
The tabernacle is from the 15th century. To the right of it is a fresco in Byzantine style, which shows the Madonna with Child and Angels. In the background you can see a depiction of the destroyed church Santa Maria Imperatrice.
[edit] Liturgy
The feasts of St Bartholomew, 24 August, and St Andrew, 30 November, are celebrated with great solemnity.
