Santi Martiri dell'Uganda a Poggio Ameno

English name: Holy Martyrs of Uganda at Poggio Ameno
Dedication: Charles Lwanga and Companions
Denomination: Roman Catholic
Built: 1980
Contact data
Address: Via Adolfo Rava 31

Santi Martiri dell'Uganda a Poggio Ameno is a modern parish and titular church at Via Adolfo Ravà 31 in the suburb of Poggio Ameno, which is on the south-east edge of Garbatella.

This is a poverty-stricken and badly planned area and the parish, founded in 1970, had to make do with shop premises for years. There was a struggle to find a site to build a church, and there was much opposition to the use of one of the few open spaces in the suburb.

The dedication is to SS Charles Lwanga and Companions. The present titular is Christian Wiyghan Tumi.

The church was completed in 1980, as a low one-storey building. The plan is that of an irregular star, and the roofline and walls sweep in inward arcs between its points. The walls are concrete panels separated by vertical pilasters, and there is a row of windows under the roofline.
